How to Grow Roses Indoors

Growing roses indoors is difficult but possible with miniature roses. Give them the sunniest window (or a grow light), cool nights, steady moisture and humidity, and good airflow — and expect to move them outdoors eventually.

Roses are outdoor plants at heart, but miniature roses can be grown indoors for a time with the right conditions. Above all they need light: a bright south-facing window with at least five to six hours of direct sun, or a supplemental grow light, or they grow leggy and stop blooming.

Keep them in free-draining soil, water when the surface dries, and raise humidity with a pebble tray since indoor air is dry. Cool nights, steady airflow to deter mildew and spider mites, and regular feeding all help. Most indoor roses do best if moved outside for the growing season once frost has passed.
