How to Prune Drift Roses
Prune Drift roses in early spring by cutting the whole plant back by about one-third to a half. They are self-cleaning groundcover roses, so this once-a-year trim is all they need to stay tidy and bloom hard.
Drift roses are compact groundcover roses that ask for very little. Once a year, in early spring before new growth surges, cut the entire plant back by roughly a third to a half of its size to refresh it and keep it dense. Remove any dead or weak twigs at the same time.
Because Drift roses are self-cleaning, you never need to deadhead them — spent flowers drop on their own. That single spring prune, plus full sun and occasional feeding, keeps them blooming from spring to frost.
