How to Get Roses to Bloom More

For more blooms, give roses full sun, feed them regularly, deadhead spent flowers, and water deeply at the base. Most shy bloomers are short on sun or nutrients.

Flowering is fueled by sun and nutrition. Make sure the plant gets at least six hours of direct sun; fewer hours means fewer flowers. Feed every four to six weeks through the growing season with a balanced rose fertilizer, and water deeply so the plant is never stressed.

On repeat bloomers, deadhead faded flowers to redirect energy into new buds. Finally, check that you are pruning at the right time — pruning a once-bloomer in late winter removes its only flush.
